Another trend, much like the ephemeral Facebook Bra color which invaded the famous social networking site weeks ago, is spreading on the site’s News Feed like fire. Dubbed as the “Doppelganger Week on Facebook”, users around the globe are changing their profile avatars/pictures into celebrities whom they most likely resemble. Typing “doppelganger” on the site’s search bar would direct you to user profiles that had changed their avatars following the current trend.
Bob Patel, according to The Hufflington Post, is the person responsible for the phenomenon. Patel works at the I.T. department of his company. However, how The Hufflington Post discovered the cause of the trend is still unidentified. Circulating around Profile Statuses and private messages is this: It’s Doppelgänger week on Facebook; change your profile picture to someone famous (actor, musician, athlete, etc.) you have been told you look like. After you update your profile with your twin or switched at birth photo then cut/paste this to your status.
As this trend had already invaded Facebook, there is no stopping the users to go with the flow. Though brands are not supposed to launch campaigns promoting the trend, millions and millions of users are altering their profile avatars into their celebrity look a likes.
