Bay area kids headed to see shuttle launch
Tampa, FL – NASA is on track for a pre-dawn launch of space shuttle Endeavour at Cape Canaveral.
Stiff wind rattled the launch site this afternoon but forecasters are hopeful the gusts will die down in time for tomorrow’s liftoff.
The odds of good weather are 80 percent.
Endeavour is loaded with a new room for the International Space Station, as well as an observation deck.
The six shuttle astronauts slept through the afternoon and will work the graveyard shift during the 13-day flight.
About 40 students from Stewart Middle Magnet School are headed to see the early morning launch. The school is a science, technology, engineering and math – or STEM - academy.
With just five space missions left, there are few opportunities for students to see a launch.
