David Sills is only in middle school, but he’s already turning heads in the football world. It’s been rumored that he verbally agreed to a football scholarship to USC for the class of 2015, according to ESPN. He’s only 13 now, but has received national attention for his quarterback skills.
He can’t officially sign a letter of intent with USC, or any other school, until 2015, but it looks like the football star-in-the-making will keep in the headlines until then, at the rate he’s going. Sills and his family appeared on Good Morning America last week, and he continues to be hot in the headlines. YouTube clips of him even aired on ESPN.
Sills said in an ESPN interview after seeing himself on national television: “I felt like I was in a dream today. It was so amazing to see my highlights on TV. It was on in the restaurants and sports bars and everywhere. I saw myself a lot on TV today.”
Still, there has been some criticism of USC coach Lane Kiffin for recruiting so young, and Sills father and current coach for pushing him into the limelight.
His father said about the scrutiny: “Quite frankly I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion. The rules are the rules and as long as you abide by the rules then you abide by the rules. If people don’t like this they don’t need to get mad about it and bash the dad and bash the coach and bash the kid, they should call up the NCAA and tell them that they don’t like the rules.”
