Connecticut power plant explosion
A massive explosion occurred Sunday morning at a Connecticut power plant leaving almost a dozen people hospitalized.
The explosion occurred at around 11:30 a.m. at the Kleen Power Plant in Middletown.
According to CNN, a local hospital reported it was treating 11 patients due to the accident. Dr. Jonathan Bankoff, an emergency room physician said some patients reported being thrown 30 or 40 feet by the blast, and suffered injuries including extremity and pelvic fractures.
Deputy Fire Marshal, Al Santostefano said that about 50 people were working at the site when the explosion occurred.
CNN reports that people felt or heard the explosion up to 20 miles away.
Peter Moore, who lives about 10 miles from the plant, told CNN, “It felt like the house was shaking… It was really big.”
Lynn Townsend, who lives near the explosion site, told WTNF “It was almost like an earthquake.” She also said she saw “a very big, bright orange flame” coming from the plant’s smokestacks.
According to CNN the Department of Homeland Security is monitoring the situation.
