Jane Skinner has been an important part of the Fox News team for twelve years, helping make “Happening Now” a huge success. The co-anchor of the show, however, announced to viewers on Thursday that she was broadcasting her last show.
Skinner is stepping away from Fox to spend more time with her twin daughters and her husband, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. The couple married a couple of years ago, and their busy schedules have kept them apart in recent months.
“This is my last day on the air at Fox News,’ said Skinner, “…I added a husband who has in the last couple of years become the NFL commissioner, and has a job even busier than mine. I have twin daughters, so to do justice to this new life I’ve decided to take a break from the business.”
Goodell has had his hands full this off season dealing with the draft, the owners meetings, and Ben Roethlisberger’s off-field behavior. In each instance, precedent has been set for future NFL players.
The draft this year was held over the course of three days, from Thursday night’s first round, through the later rounds on Saturday. The owners meetings produced the announcement that New York will host a Super Bowl for the first time in history.
As for Roethlisberger, he became the first player ever suspended without being charged with a crime. Goodell has made it a point during his early tenure to demand accountability off the field for his athletes.
The issue of gambling on NFL games is one that will likely define Goodell’s leadership in the coming years. Many states are exploring the possibility of adding online gambling, and with that could come regulated sports betting. Delaware has already added sports betting to their gaming options this past year.
